Battlefords Tribal Council was established in 1991 with the incorporation of Battlefords Tribal Council Management Corporation to serve the Little Pine, Lucky Man Cree, Mosquito and Sweetgrass First Nations. BTC expanded in 1995 when Moosomin, Red Pheasant and Poundmaker joined.
The mandate of the Battlefords Tribal Council is to provide professional and technical advisory services to its member First nations in the areas of Financial Management, Administration, Education, Community Planning and Economic Development. Battlefords Tribal Council is committed to providing these services in a professional, efficient and effective manner with the needs of the First Nations and their members as the primary focus.
While this mandate would appear to limit the scope of the Tribal Council, in practice, the Tribal Council is viewed by the First Nations as an essential resource center for guidance, direction and active participation in most new initiatives undertaken by our First Nations. Therefore, the Tribal Council has an ongoing working relationship with our First Nations in most aspects of their development and operations.
